September was a big month for us at Woodward Park City. We officially broke ground on September 20, 2018. Officials from POWDR, Jacobsen Construction, Summit County, design and engineer teams joined community and industry leaders to celebrate the official kick-off of the project.
In addition to celebrating the groundbreaking, crews have been on-site since late August moving dirt for the building and preparing the mountain for the chairlift and downhill programming. Additional work has been done by Basin Recreation to reroute and improve existing trails for the Park City community.
At this point, the main building mass excavation and on mountain trail clearing are nearing completion.
• Our goal with trail clearing remains to leave as much old growth as we can while maintaining industry safety standards for chairlift, snow, and downhill operations.
• We’ve successfully kept materials that have been excavated on-site meaning we’ve greatly reduced waste leaving the property headed to landfills or other off-site locations.
• We’ve chosen to utilize a mastication technique mulching much of the fallen materials, leaving root structures and grasses in place while largely following the trail system on the property created with the original ski facility decades ago.
We also have a big hole that starting to resemble the footprint of the building.
Over the next several months, we’ll continue to see big things happening regularly. We’ll post monthly updates sharing milestones from the prior month and what to expect for the coming month.
