If you’ve been shredding during an indoor session here at Woodward Park City, you may have noticed these strange black boxes on the walls with little green lights and wondered what kind of FBI spy system we were using. Well, those boxes are actually called AIRPHX units, and they play an important role in helping our staff and guests stay safe from air and surface pathogens.

If you’re not interested in geeking out on all the nerdy data we’ve captured from the AirPHX units, here’s the Bill Nye version:

We have seven units strategically placed by a consultant around our building. Each unit operates 24/7 and can cover a range of 150,000 square feet! AirPHX units create trace amounts of gas-phase hydrogen peroxide that are extremely effective at disinfecting air and surfaces in a nonhazardous way. The main objective of the AirPHX units is to remove pathogens such as coronavirus, staph, norovirus, influenzas, mold, and more from the air and surfaces as air is being circulated throughout the building. We are using these units on top of our modified operational cleaning procedures that we implement daily. We have seen a significant reduction in airborne pathogens since installation!

Now, remember that science class you had where you said you’d never need to know about microorganisms or volumetric air samplers again? Well here’s some fun scientific results for you: AirPHX conducted a pre-installation and treatment test to sample surfaces in different areas of our Indoor Action Sports Hub. They used these numbers to compare against a post-installation and treatment test to see if the units were performing, and how well. In-treatment results showed an 88.3% - 93.2% reduction in airborne organisms, and a 90.9% reduction in surface organisms. These surfaces will only continue to get better and better over time as the oxidizing molecules circulate.

It’s a privilege to share our passion for action sports with Woodward Park City members and guests; and we’re stoked about the opportunity to continue to do that in accordance with heath and safety as our top-priority.  We will continue to take these specific steps to assure the health and safety of our staff, guests, and community this season, and into the foreseeable future. We’re excited and proud to play a part in the communities economic recovery and provide a place for people to reconnect with their passions for action sports and fun.
